Think of energy from food as water flowing through a garden hose. You have three scenarios: One hose has no nozzle - energy flows out uselessly. One with a nozzle spraying powerfully - optimal resistance. And one with a kink in the hose - too much resistance.
This simple analogy explains something profound about how your body actually works.
What We've Learned About Energy Flow
Without a nozzle, water just pours out. It has no force, no purpose. It can't accomplish useful work. This represents the modern sedentary dilemma - energy with nowhere productive to go.
Our bodies work similarly. We need what we call a "just right" amount of Energy Resistance (éR) to transform food into life - to build muscle, think clearly, and power our cells. This resistance is what turns raw potential into useful energy. This is what fitness actually represents.
But here's what happens when the hose gets kinked: When resistance becomes too high, pressure builds up, the system gets damaged, and energy can't reach where it's needed. This becomes the root of cellular stress, inflammation, and burnout.

Your body constantly calculates what we've found to be a simple formula: éR = Energy Demand / Energy Capacity².
Energy Demand encompasses all the work your body handles:
Food processing (which requires significant energy)

Inside your mitochondria, electrons from food flow down what's called the Electron Transport Chain to create energy. This flow needs to remain smooth and efficient.
